Lucena Privacy Policy

Information Stored on Your Mac

Lucena stores information needed to provide its features locally on your Mac. This may include:

• App preferences, such as board appearance, sound, analysis, and engine settings.
• Your current chess session, positions, moves, variations, and any player name you enter.
• The names and paths of recently opened PGN files.
• PGN files that you choose to save, stored in the location you select.

Lucena accesses PGN files only when you select, open, drop into, or save them through macOS. This locally stored information is used only to provide app functionality and is not sent to Lucena's developer.

Optional Lichess Tablebase

Lucena can optionally request exact endgame results from the Lichess tablebase. This feature is disabled by default and is not required to use Lucena or its bundled Caissa analysis engine.

When you enable the Lichess tablebase and analyze an eligible position with seven or fewer pieces, Lucena sends the position in Forsyth-Edwards Notation (FEN) to https://tablebase.lichess.org over HTTPS. A FEN describes the chess position and game-state counters. Lucena does not intentionally include your name, the PGN filename, PGN tags, or the complete game in that request.

As with any internet request, Lichess receives ordinary connection information, including your IP address, and a user-agent identifying Lucena. Lichess handles this information independently under the Lichess Privacy Policy. Lucena uses the response only to display tablebase analysis. Responses are cached only in memory while Lucena is running and are discarded when the app quits.

You can withdraw consent and stop future tablebase requests at any time by turning off Lichess tablebase in Lucena's settings.

Sharing, Advertising, and Tracking

Lucena does not sell personal information and does not share information with advertisers, data brokers, or analytics providers. Lucena does not track you across apps or websites.

The only app-initiated disclosure to an external service is the optional Lichess tablebase request described above. Lichess publishes its own privacy protections and states that connection information is processed to provide and secure its service, not for advertising in Lucena.

Retention and Deletion

Lucena's developer has no Lucena account database or developer-operated server containing your data, so there is no server-side Lucena data to retain or delete.

You control information stored on your Mac:

• Delete saved PGN files using Finder.
• Clear the recent-PGN list from within Lucena.
• Change preferences in Lucena's settings.
• Remove Lucena and its local app data to remove its stored preferences and session information.
• Quit Lucena to clear its in-memory Lichess response cache.

For data received by Lichess, retention, deletion requests, and other privacy rights are governed by the Lichess Privacy Policy linked above.

Security

Lucena uses the macOS App Sandbox to limit file access to files you select. Optional Lichess requests use HTTPS. No method of storage or transmission can be guaranteed to be completely secure, but Lucena minimizes data use and does not maintain a developer-operated data service.

Children

Lucena is not directed specifically to children and does not knowingly collect personal information from children. The optional Lichess request behaves the same for every user and remains disabled until enabled in settings.

Changes to This Policy

This policy may be updated if Lucena's features or data practices change. The date at the top of this page will identify the latest revision.
